Allow Me to Introduce Myself – Claude Racine

Claude Racine
Vice President Public Relations

When did you join Toastmasters?

I joined Toastmasters a few years ago. Over the years, I’ve belonged to 2 different clubs — Transport Canada and Tunney’s Toastmasters — both of which I’ve enjoyed and still enjoy tremendously.

Why did you run for the position of Vice President Public Relations (VP PR) of your club?

I ran for the VP PR position because this is one that I hadn’t done in the past. I’ve been President, VP Membership and Sergeant-at-Arms but never VP PR. I’ve also been Area Governor and tremendously enjoyed that challenge. I find that holding an executive position keeps me committed, motivated, and helps me grow and get out of my comfort zone, while constantly learning new things.

What do you want to accomplish as a member of the PR Team for District 61?

My goal is to help increase the membership of my current club while promoting the roles we take on a weekly basis, encouraging people to speak and spreading the good words about our club and the fact that we truly have a fun, informal and enjoyable culture within Tunney’s Toastmasters.
Have you renewed your membership? I renewed my membership and plan on doing so again shortly, for the next six months.

How are you different before and after joining our club?

Toastmasters is, of course, a hobby, but it’s actually more than that. It’s lifelong learning and has changed me tremendously. Toastmasters taught me how to speak well in front of a club and how to lead whenever and wherever it is needed.

What have colleagues, friends, and family noticed that is different about you?

How well-spoken and outgoing I can be when I put my mind to it and, when the opportunity presents itself, I am able to take on the challenge of addressing a crowd.

What do you get out of Toastmasters?

I really enjoy the professionalism, the culture, and the overall atmosphere of the Toastmasters organization. It is filled with friendly, helpful people who are always ready to lend a hand. The impact the teachings of Toastmasters has on me is that I tend to sit just a bit straighter, walk with just a bit more confidence, and speak just a little bit more eloquently than I would without it.

How do you spend your leisure time?

I enjoy spending my leisure time with family and friends. I also get a great deal of satisfaction renovating my house, riding my bike and working out.
What brings you joy? A sunny day at the beach with good company and a glass of wine are sure to bring much joy to my heart.

Stay safe.
