Workshop Descriptions

Workshop 1: Designing a club poster

A club poster is a means to communicate the nature of your club to the general public.

The workshop begins with a discussion of what is needed to create a good poster. Next, you work in small teams to define your club. Then, working from a successful existing poster, you will prepare a poster that represents your club. At the end of the activity, a few clubs present their poster and receive feedback from one evaluator in typical Toastmasters fashion. The others fill out an evaluation sheet.

Workshop 2: Planning a Special Event

A celebration is a golden opportunity to attract new members and solidify the cohesion of a club.

In this workshop, we will cover the following topics:

  • Reasons to celebrate
  • The goals of a celebration
  • How to prepare for the celebration
  • How to engage members

After a large group discussion, you will separate into small teams and work from a template to prepare your own special event.

One team will present its plan, and an evaluator will provide feedback in typical Toastmasters fashion. The other participants fill out an evaluation form. We repeat 2 or 3 times.

Workshop 3: Creating a marketing strategy

By the end of this workshop, you will have created a marketing strategy for your club.

We start by discussing ways to spread the word about our club. Next, we ask you to share what works and doesn’t work for your club.

Then in small teams, you will work on your own marketing strategy. At the end of the activity, a few teams present their poster and one evaluator provides feedback in typical Toastmasters fashion. The others fill out an evaluation sheet.

At the end, each poster will be evaluated by at least two people.

Activity 4: Delivering a Speech Workshop (Speechcraft)

The workshop demystifies Speechcraft so that you can use it to recruit new members. You will know everything you need to know to deliver a Speechcraft successfully, including the structure of the 4 basic sessions, how to divide the roles, how to coach the speechcrafters so they enjoy a positive experience, and the benefits to the members who serve as mentors. Speechcraft’s topics include:

  • Ways to organize a speech
  • The development of his vocal qualities
  • Methods of evaluating a speaker
  • The Importance of Body Language

At the end of the workshop, you will be ready to deliver a Speechcraft using a proven methodology.
