Public Speaker clinches 16th win taking him to Toastmasters World Championship of Public Speaking®

J.A Gamache will represent District 61 Toastmasters World Championship of Public Speaking®

Ottawa, Ontario, 2024-04-13 — J.A Gamache of Laval, Quebec, has emerged victorious once again, surpassing more than 300 contestants at the club level to secure the title of District 61 winner. With this remarkable achievement, Gamache advances to the quarterfinals, paving his way to the prestigious Toastmasters World Championship of Public Speaking® (WCPS), slated to be held in a hybrid format in Anaheim in August 2024.

A member of Club Dynamique De Laval, Gamache boasts a Toastmasters journey spanning over 30 years, during which he has ascended to triumph, marking this triumph as his 16th District win!

Gamache’s captivating speech, titled “5 Minutes to Midnight,” resonates with the audience by emphasizing the importance of prioritizing others and embracing the courage to care. Drawing from his DJ roots and the influence of his father, Gamache skillfully illustrates the significance of finding balance in one’s voice and fostering meaningful connections with others.

Gamache remarked, “It’s easy to care when everyone agrees with your plan, but when you know that someone or people might disagree, it’s when we freeze.” Gamache challenges us all to “Dare to care!”

Competing proficiently in both official languages; French and English, Gamache secured the coveted 1st place spot at this year’s District 61 International Speech Contest, in English. It should be noted that J.A. also achieved a remarkable 3rd place finish in Anaheim back in 2001. If he successfully advances past the Regional Finals, he will return to Anaheim, marking the 100th anniversary of Toastmasters in August 2024, thus bringing his journey full circle.

Gamache will next vie with up to 127 other winners from regions worldwide, showcasing their prowess in delivering five to seven-minute speeches evaluated on content, delivery, and language.

The Toastmasters International Speech Contest, inaugurated in 1938, stands as the world’s largest speech contest, engaging more than 30,000 participants from 148 countries annually. The pinnacle of this contest series, the World Championship of Public Speaking, draws speakers from across the globe to compete at Toastmasters International Convention, which will take place where it all began in Anaheim California.
